Feilding Scout Notes
(By "Scribs. ") Kowhai Troop ‘ On Tuesday, April 29, 1941, the troop ■ assembled at the Hen at 6.30 p.m. The parade began with flag break and prayers. Roll books were then distributed to Patrol Leaders who marked them, and prepared their patrols for inspection. The troop was then divided up into four equal patrols being Weka, Makomako, Huia and Kotare, under ' their respective leaders. The leaders i were then given previously worked-out, written instructions. These consisted . of a route to follow through the town ( over the distance of about four miles. . Tho patrols wero instructed to a more . [•roper formation and to bo ready fpr 1 any emergency. After each of patrols had departed the Scout Matter
and Troop Leader set out to ambush < each patrol in turn. The raiding party i returned later with the flags of curli , patrol in their possession, having successfully ambushed each of the four 'patrols in turn. Later, at the Den, the •S.M. received a report from each of tho P.L.s and told them their mistakes during the manoeuvre. It was agreed J by all that a very instructive and in- c tcresting evening was held. A very u good piece of handiwork was finished * to-night by one of the Scouts, Second ( Jim Newman, after many hours of very painstaking work completed a carving of a troop name. The writing on it was 1 "Kowhai Troop, Feilding." 5
