Feilding’s Water Supply
PROGRESS ON SUMP WELL EXPERIMENT A progress report on the sump well experiment for an auxiliary water supply for the town was made to last evening's meeting of tho Fcilding Borough Council by Mr. T. K. Hay (borough engineer). At a depth of 34ft. the sump well was providing a flow of 13,000 gallons an hour of clear ■water. This was not sufficient for the needs of the town bat Mr. Hay anticipated increasing this by putting down another test well further out in the river. His reason for this was that papa h«ad been reached at 34 feet and this papa shelved steeply towards the river-bed. The flow of water was on tho papa and he assumed that by erecting another sump well further out ho would succeed in catching a greater flow and possibly obtain the 38,000 to 20,000 gallons per hour required for an efli- , rient auxiliary service. The water was , flowing freely into tho sump well and 1 was then pumped to the pipe line. Or. C. B. McClure stated that Wai- : pawa water supply was derived from ]
sump wells and he suggested that Mr. | Hay should inspect this system. I' Tho Mayor (Mr. T. L. Scddon) said | that the engineer had been authorised to proceed with experiments and agreed . : that Mr. Hay should go to Waipawa it' ! it would assist his investigations, it ! would not be until Mr. Hay had completed his experiments that a report ' would be ready for the council.
