Home Guard Parade
STRENGTH STILL MOUNTING There was the customary large attendance at Thursday night’s Home Guard parade and several new enrolments were effected. Th unit commander, Mr. J. J. Young, introduced Major Norman, who gave * most interesting lecture on the methods employed to ensure the protection of an army, both advancing and while at rest. The parade then divided into separate units, two platoons marching to the school, where instruction in marching and night observation was given. Three platoons at the recreation ground received similar instruction, concluding with a route march. The ambulance platoon was given further instruction at tho Parish Hall, while the band held a practice at the Drill Hall. The unit commander, Mr. Young, complimented the men on their fine performance at the Anzac Day parade, the band receiving special mention. In response to an appeal by Mr. Young, a small coin collection realised the satisfactory sum of £3 Is, the money to be used to purchase a supply of new music for the band.
