Pahiatua Patriotic Entertainers Get Busy

GRAND BALL COMING OFF SOON The first general meeting of the second year’s activities of the Pahiatua Patriotic Entertainers’ Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, Mr. A. G. Hogg presiding over an attendance of some 22 members. A letter of thanks for assistance given by members of the executive at a recent gala sports at Eketahuna was received from the town clerk of Ekotahuna.

Mrs. Merrie was unanimously elected chairwoman of the ladies’ committee. Several appointments to various positions oh the executive were made as follows: —

Press, E. M. Woodhead; programme organiser, W. G. Greaves; stage managers, R. Merrie and L. Anderson with W. G. Greaves in charge; wardrobe mistress, Mrs. Jones. .

A wide and varied discussion took place on the outlining of the coming year’s activities, many. suggestions being put forward. The circle is to be opened with the staging of a grand ball to bo held in the Drill Hall at the end of May. Mr. Greaves mentioned the possibility of a full concert party from Palmerston North visiting Pahiatua in the near future and it was left to Mr. Greaves to make all arrangements regarding the visit. The chairman, Mr. A. G. Hogg, made mention of the approaching departure of Mr. J. H. Smith for Matamuta, and expressed on behalf of members their appreciation of his work during his term with the organisation. Mr. Hogg wished Mr. and Mrs. Smith every success in their new sphere. Mr. W. A. Carthew, in endorsing the remarks of the chairman, spoke of the many ways in which Mr. Smith had greatly assisted at all patriotic functions," Mr. Smith very suitably replied.
