American Civil Planes for Britain
ROOSEVELT ORDERS SURVEY Receivod Wednesday, 8.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, April 29. President Roosevelt announced that he was requesting a survey of civil aviation facilities to ascertain how many planes could be bought for tho defence of tho democracies. He said tho belligerent democracies really needed civilian transport aeroplanes. The Now York Times comments that all civilian types of planes including trainfers will probably be sent to Britain and China. President Roosevelt also told a press conference that American naval vessels could enter the combat zones if necessary in the defence of the Western Hemisphere. He said he did not recognise any German combat zone extending round tho British Isles.
