From the ponds at Mangahao 3000 rainbow and 2000 brown yearling* were liberated, the rainbow going to the Pori btrearn and the brown to the Mangahao district. From the hatchery we received 80,000 brown fry which were placed in th* Makakahi, Mangatainoka and Mangahao Rivers and 10,000 rainbow fry, which were put into the pond at Manga-

liao. OA We received from the game larm M pheasants which were liberated in the Kaitawa and Kohinui districts, and also five mallard ducks. Early in May, 1940, a quin ns t salmon was found at Uamua. This is the third, that has been notified in the last lew

years. , , . . Fishing lias been very patchy but from all streams there have been rs* ports of good bags taken at some tuna or other daring the season. Ihe sit* of the fish taken is about on a par with past seasons. The local anglers club rocorded 50 fish of a weight of 751 b. in three competitions. The boys, as usual, have been busy amongst the eels and have weighed in specimens up to 221 b. It is pleasing to note that from where the boys have been taking the eels in the last three or four vears that stretch of water has fished better than any other in the dis-

trict. „ „ , . , Our delegate, Mr. F. Parkes, has been a regular attender at the council meetings and is to be complimented on tht manner in which be is carrying out his duties, for he always reports on the business transacted.
