Power Board Reports

INCREASES SHOWN IN ALL SECTIONS The following is a summary of the report submitted by the engineer, Mr. F. O. Devlin, at Tuesday’s meeting ofthe Dannevirke Electric i’ower Board: New consumers: Dannevirke borough. 5, Dannevirke county I,- Woodville County I. Number of meters erectod, 41; number of meters tested, 16. New work: A start has been made on tho erection of a new double circuit main line which is to run from liua Boa to Dannevirke, but work was interrupted for several days due to gales and uad weather. Ten new service lines to consumers’ premises have been constructed and brought into service. Maintenance: A considerable amount of maintenance work has been carried out, and in the Woodville district Host and Telegraph crossings have been attended to. Trees have been cut and trimmed and jioles reblocked. Faults: During the first week of the month heavy gales did a certain amount of damage to lines, chiefly in the Te Rehuuga, Norsewooil, Ormondville and Whctuxura districts. Several hig’h-tension fuses were blown, and at Matamau a wireless aerial was blown over a service line. Also at Matamau an 11,000-volt wire falling on a crossarm caused it to burn through. A large branch of a tree hanging over the lines caused an interruption of three hours in one district, vaults at Woodville were not of a serious nature, and little inconvenience was caused to consumers. New loading: A total of 98 k.w. of new loading lias been added during the month, bringing the total connected Load up to 13,897 k.w. The wiring staff is kept extremely busy and a large amount of new work is on hand. Treasurer’s Statement.

The treasurer’s statement, as presented by tho secretary, Mr. T. H. Pickard, read as follows: — Sales of current for the month ended March 31 amounted to £4550 10s 4d, an increase of £llO 6s 9d for the corresponding period last year. Increases were shown in all sections. Discounts for the month amounted to £lB4, as against £l7B last year. The net sales 1 Qi . current for the year amounted to £41,473, an increase of £3360 over the previous year. The cost of current purchased from the Public Works Department for the 12 months was £12,028, an increase of £1316 over last year’s figures. Total units purchased during the period amounted to 8,882,400, an increase of 1,098,680. ’ Bank balances as at March 31. were. Power fund, £4605; loan account, £1321; and loan moneys on fixed deposit, £19,000. * .. r Advances made during the month for the purchase of ranges, water heaters, 1 etc., amounted to £559.
