Horses for Waverley TUESDAY’S TRACK WORK AT NEW PLYMOUTH All the fast work at New Plymouth on Tuesday morning was on the course proper with the flags out about" 12 feet, out most of the horses were restricted to useful tasks. Windsor Chief hit out freely to beat Auto Sweep by three lengths over seven furlongs .in lmin. 31ses. Windsor Chief has been working well, but his efforts with tne colours up have been j>oor. Aussie Ra and Footloose separately did three-quarter pace work on the plough. ' Tne South Island horseman R. E. Humphries has joined R. Johnson's stable. Humphries, who is a younger brother of George Humphries, rode more than 40 winners as an apprentice, his wins including the last Dunedin Cup on Doubieack. .because he goes to scale at between 7.10 and 7.12 Humphries wall be a welcome addition to the ranks of Taranaki jockeys. GALLOPS AT HAWERA Training operations at Hawera on Tuesday were carried out under firstclass conditions. With a couple of exceptions the fast work was on the plough, which was fast. In a working gallop over a mile Notium (G. Sexton) went comforta'Dlyi to register lmin. 50sec. Notium is in great order. A working gallop was accorded Veldette (G. Sexton), and this mare never looked litter than at present. On the outside of the course proper Gitana Lass (J. Potroz) finished ill front of War Lap (fold) at the end of five furlongs in lmin. 5 2-ssec. On ths course proper trestles were out 45 fdet. Friesland (N. Holland) and Tavoy (C. Cole) were associated in a gallop over Jive furlongs on the plough. Tavoy led to the three furlongs, but Friesland finished.on well to defeat Tavoy by some lengths in lmin. Surveyor Genei*al (D. Ryan), looking in great order, sprinted down the back half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Barry Boy (N. Holland) went particularly fast over his first two furlongs, slowing up over the last quarter but registering 51sec. for his half-mile. Royal Star II was exercised on the lead aud looks in splendid order. If. Scully's team, Min Vaals and Disturbed, did useful pace work. NEW QUARTERS TOR DON QUEX Don Quex 'Ws left at Ellerslie after the recent Avondale meeting, and he is now under the care of R. S. Bagby.
