Red Cress Society Faces Another Year
GRATIFYING RECORD OF SERVICE Mr. A. R. McKegg presided over the annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Red, Gross Society held last evening, there being an excellent attendance. There were apologies from the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford (paitron), Dr. D. Cook, Mrs. Richardson (commandant) and others. Arising out of correspondence, Mr. McKegg made reference to the splendid display arranged by the Women 's War Service Auxiliary on March 29 in which, the Red Cross had co-operated so effectively, bringing commendation from Mr. H. {Sterling,.liaison officer. lu a comprehensive report the chairman stated that never in the history of Red Cross had the world needed its assistance more, and as members of that great organisation they had ample reason to feel proud of tne society and what it stood for in the world to-day. Appreciation was expressed to all wno had helped the work, particularly to Drs. Gillies', Cook, Williams and Gilbert, and to bisters Clifford Jones and Taylor for lectures and assistance in examinations, to Miss L. M. Banks-for her co-operation and help, to Sister'Dal* gleish (director) who had worked tirelessly, to the sewing division, to the Junior Red Cross and younger set, also to the transport division, the commandant (Mrs. Richardson) and assistant (Mrs. Dyne), section leaders, class secretary (Miss Gough) who had resigned, and Mr. L. Qarrian who had stepped into the breach, and lastly the tireless secretary, Mr. «J. K. Paton, who so cheerfully and willingly devoted himself to the work.
The chairman remarked .that good work was being done in every section, as indicated by their reports, but more would have to be done and if each worked to that end much would be accomplished. Mr. Patou presented the financial statement, which disclosed a gratifying position. Officers were elected as follow: — Patron, Mr. A. E. Mansford; president, Dr. D. Cook; vice-presidents, Dr. D. Gil'lics, Miss L. M. Banks and bister Da.vleisk; committee, Mesdames C. Frey berg, D. Cook, Wallace Cook, Coolt, Bnden-Jones, M. A. Eliott, Reid, Richardson, Shelley, M. Aitchison, Wilde, Hewitson, G. Dyne, Misses E. Redwood, Murphy, L. Wimsett, N. Smillie, Messrs Oliver, Pratt, N. H. Sinclair, Reid and A. R. McKegg. Mr. McKegg was re-elected president and Mr. J. K. Paton, secretary; delegates to Manawatu Centre, Sister Dalgleish, Mesdames Richardson, Dyne and C. Auderson and Mr. A. R. McKegg; auditor, Mr. A. E. lverslake; class secretary, Mr. L. Carrian. . . , , There was a pleasant incident when the chairman made to the selfless service of Miss L. Gough as class seci'etary, who had had to relinquish her duties. Expressing sincere tnanlcs for the splendid way in which she had carried out her duties, Mr. McKegg asked her to accept a small token of esteem from her fellow members. Appreciation was also expressed of the services of Mr. O ’Donnell in drilling the members.
