LEAD STOLEN FROM STATE HOUSES BY VANDALS

(By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON. Feb. 25. Five or six Government houses under construction on the Seatoun heights have suffered recently at the hands of vandals, who stripped the lead-edged flashing from underneath the windows apparently during week-ends. This material is expensive and hard to obtain, and after the plastering of the house is finished it is difficult to replaqe without extensive cost. The vandals apparently operated systematically, tearing off all the lead they could reach. Heavy lead around a chimney in one instance was tampered with, but apparently it was too difficult to remove.
