Citizenship Week for Hawera Girls

The women of Hawera have arranged a week for pupils of the high school during which the girls will have lectures and discussion on the responsibilities and ideals of citizenship. This will bo the first venture of its kind in the North Island. The organiser will be Mrs. W. C. Fyfe, who is well known in Palmerston North and Wellington. At each meeting a pupil will be in the chair. The Mayor, Mr. L. H. Clapham, will inaugurate this week with a talk on municipal affairs and the Mayoress will speak about kussifs and knitting. Then will follow Dr. Thomson, “Medical Interests,” Mr. John Houston, ‘’Maori Life and History,” Mr. L. Hunt, ‘‘Public Hygiene,” Mrs. A. Collins, ”Women Abroad.” Instruction in first aid aud home nursing by members of the Red Cross will also be given.
