Nine Men Overcome by Gas Fumes
WORKING IN HOLD OF SHIP WELLINGTON, Jan. 6. Nine men were overcome by fumes when a chlorine hydrate cylinder was damaged in tho hold of a ship at Wellington wharves this afternoon, allowing the gas, which was at high pressure, to flood the space where the men were working. The hatches were covered at the time. The injured men are: William John Stevenson, boatswain of the ship; Edward Dawson, 432 Adelaide Road, Wellington, waterside worker; J. Bird, 33 Ascot Terrace, waterside worker; J. Ruane, 89 Thorndon Quay, Wellington, waterside worker; Thomas R. Wingfield, 33 lvaramu Street, Ngaio, waterside worker; Patrick Dean, 15 Fifeshire Avenue, Wellington, waterside worker; Walter C. S. Harris, Raroa Road, Jolmsonville, waterside worker; Rudolph Finderup, 19 Chelsea Street, Wellington, waterside worker.
The Free Ambulance took the men to hospital. Their condition was reported
