Lorry Driver Killed At Level Crossing
VEHICLE STRUCK BY TROOP TRAIN Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Jan. C. Alichael Nally, of Invercargill, aged 31, was killed at the Keuningtou railway crossing at about 6 o’clock this evening when the lorry he was driving was struck by a troop train from Invercargill. The lorry was thrown clear of the line and hit a telegraph pole, being almost completely wrecked. It is thought that Nally died instantly from his injuries. The engine was slightly damaged but was able to return to Invercargill under its own power. Another troop train that was due to leave Invercargill at 6.-5 pan. was delayed for 30 minutes. The two trains were linked at Kenuington and proceeded as one unit an flour behind schedule. The train that was involved in the collision was carrying members of the sth Reinforcements for North Island camps.
Mr. Nally, who was a married man, was employed as a lorry driver by the Davis Coal and Wood Company. He is survived by his wife and one child.
