Desert Road Popular

MOTORISTS REPORT GOOD TRAVELLING Holiday motorists travelling to the Lakes district report that the Desert Road is in excellent condition aud presents no difficulties to the motorist. Considerable use has been made o£ this reconstructed short cut to Taupo over tlie holidays aud all who have travelled over the Desert Road speak in enthusiastic terms of its condition. Traffic has boon fairly heavy but the road has stood up well to the test. Thero are still a couple of small sections of a chain or so which remain to be completed and these relate to instances where new bridges are being built. Heavy rain over tho King Countryjust before Christmas 1 caught the weak patches of the road and some motorists experienced a little trouble in the soft going but all managed to get through. As soon ns the weak patches are completed tho road should present no trouble under any conditions, excepting only a blizzard on the “Gobi Desert” section when it might not be possible to get through.
