(From Our Own Correspondent.) Aliss Fay Palmer, of Wellington, wu the guest of Mrs. W. Thomasen during the holidays. Aliss Elia Burr, of Palmerston North, spent the holidays with her parents, Air. jund Mrs. J. Burr. I Mr. and Airs. Les. Clark, of Islaud Bay, Wellington, have returned homo alter spending a holiuay with Air. and AJrs. J. Petersen. Aiisses Freda und Doreen Hansen and Mr. W. O’Neill, senr., are spending a holiday in North Auckland. Miss Flora Drysdale and Air. Duncan Drysdale, of the Capital''City, are tfc* guests of their parents. Mrs. J. Lawrence, Air. and Mrs. H. Lawrence und Master Brian Lawrence are the guests of the former’s sister, Aliss 8011, of Nireaha. Air. Eric Neiderer, manager of tho Nireaha Store, is away on holiday and duriug his absence Air. W. W. Drysdale is managing. Air. Jack Sigvertsen, of Fort Dorset, is spending a few days with relatives at Rongokokako before entering Trentham Camp for training for overseas service. Aliss Isla Pryde, of New Plymouth, is spending the school vacation with her pareuts. Mr. W. Owens was a recent guest of I Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Petersen. | With the advent of a fortnight’» , warm weather, local farmers are makjing excellent progress wfith their harj vesting and crops are coming in in good condition. Sheepfarmers are also benefiting from the dry spell as iambs are I now putting on weight and the liret 'drafts should show good returns. Root | and rape crops ure showing up well aud | local farmers seem assured of doing I* their share in increasing the output of frozen meats. Swimming enthusiasts are making good use of the pool in the Manigatainoka River and the recent holiday* saw r big crowds present on every warm day. The local tennis courts have not been greatly patronised of late, but it m Hoped that with the advent of the coming Ure&the&d Cup matches, interest will be revived and a local team bo placed in the competition. Pupils of the secondary department of the Eketahuna District Higu School compete annually for prizes donated oy the late Air. W. B. Matheson, the subject being an essay on “Citizenship.” This year the first prize was won by David Golder, of Nireaha. The annual meeting of the Tararua : Defence Rifle Club was held on the ‘range last Saturday, when Mr. P. Berry presided. On account of Mr. Frank. Higvertsen, last year’s secretary, being on active service, Air. K. J. Lawrence was elected to fill the vacancy. It was decided to conserve ammunition ou hand in case of an emergency arising. If other clubs in the Bush district are . iu favour, attempts w ill be made to hoi i the usual annual triangular match. Following the meeting and luncheon provided by the ladies, a seven shot shoot was fired over the 300 yards rauge. Mr. Frank Sigvertsen donated a trophy for the winner who proved to be Air. J. P. Sigvertsen on a count back from Air. J. I. Sigvertson. Conditions for the shoot were not good, a bright i light and rapid changes in the wind i'direction making trouble for some ot r the riflemen.
