GERMANS TRY TO CLOSE BRITISH PORTS
(Received 2, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 31. A British naval spokesman said that Germany was making strenuous efforts to close the entrances of British harbours by the use of minelaying aeroplanes and also by E-boats. “When the full history of the war is known,” said the spokesman, “it will reveal the brilliant work of the torpedomen, scientific experts and minesweeper crews in defeating the enemy’s efforts. We have had anxieties and losses, but we have never doubted that the enemy will fail In his objective.”
