1940 a Prologue To Decisive Events
BRITAIN READY FOR ANY INVASION ATTEMPT (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jan. 1. For the British Army the year just closed has been as memorable as many of its incidents have been. The year has been no more than a prologue to the decisive events to come in the field. Military training in the period since Dunkirk h?n been one of intense effort. Great progress has been made, to.>, with reinforcement. Already a considerable number of units have been despatched to the Middle East and elsewhere fully equipped. All troops remaining at home are rapidly approaching full war scale. The Army at home greeted the New Year standing sentinel against invasion. Counter-invasion measures have been formulated which take into consideration all possibilities and provide a system of defence which will enable troops to counter an invader on the beaches until arrival of strong mobile reinforcements.
