Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, the famous British air leader, en rotue to Washington to confer on the standardisation of aircraft equipment, said: “A method has been f.ound to defeat the G-erman night raiders. I confidently believe that it will not be long before all the weight and sting has been taken from night bombing attacks.” He aded that equipment for the new method was rapidly being completed and he expected the worst of night bombing would be over by the spring.

Tlie Naval spokesman said Britain hoped that intensified counter measures would reduce the looses from U-boats. The Navy was using the Mediterranean at will. Germany had failed to “make us feel that she would succeed in stopping necessary supplies to Britain.”
