“The Sea Hawk”
ERROL FLYNST AND BRENDA MARSHAL CO-STARRED (Regent: Now Showing;) “The Sea Hawk,” directed by Michael Curtiz, master director of the action film, is the feature attraction at the Regent Theatre. Produced by Warner Bros, bn a lavish scale to give full value to'the magniii cent sweep of the stirring sea story, “The Sea Hawk” has a tremendous cast of thousands, headed by ErroJ Flynn. Mighty sea battles, . daring duels, spectacular scenes in the Elizabethan [court are only a few of the ingredients which make “The Sea Hawk” such splendid entertainment. During the filming, in odor to record spetetacular action scenes involving the two huge ships ou the indoor “ocean” on stage 2.1, Curtiz employed three cameras—the “boom” camera on a long track, a camera on a 30-foot parallel and another on a 35-foot parallel. Things got really tough when Errol Flynn was joined by his entire “crew” for the big battle scenes wherein the “Sea Hawk” rams the sweeps of the Spanish galleas and both crews engage in hand-to-hand combat. Curtiz figured that he directed about 500 warriors in those thrilling battle scenes.
Cast as a sort of Robin Hood of the seven seas, Flynn’s newest cinematic, adventure is said to overshadow even such outstanding successes as “Charge of the Light Brigade,” “Captain Blood,” “Adventures of Robin llood,” and “Virginia City,” as «e carves himself a path to glory with his sword nud cutlass. There’s romance, too, with tovely Brenda Marshal, as the Spanish beauty who wins the heart of the bold buccaneer.
Other members of the featured cast include Claude Rains, Flora Robson, Donald Crisp and Alan Hale heading a supporting cast of thousands.
