Terrace End Branch League of Mothers
HAPPY CHRISTMAS PARTY Tho December meeting of the Terrace End branch of tho League of Mothers took the form of a Christmas party for the children and was held under very happy circumstances on Saturday last. The Coronation llall had been transformed for the occasion with appropriate emblems and a prolusion of flowers on the stage with scarlet geraniums adorning the tablo set lor the children flanked by two miniature j Christmas trees. Bunches of bright balloons added to the colour aud the centre of attraction was the handsome Christmas tree laden with gifts. There was also a patriotic note in tho decorations in view of the King’s birthday aud proceedings opeued with the National Anthem. Airs. E. Dymock presided aud offered a welcome, particularly mentioning members of the city branch uud Airs. Pitt a new member from Island Bay branch. Mrs. Curtis also conveyed greetings from the Wudestown branch. Reference was made to the indispo sition of Mrs. Cocks and tho secretary was authorised to write expressing sympathy and greetings. Airs. Ward, a member is to be transferred to ALarton. Greetings were conveyed from Airs. E. Thwaitcs, former vice-president, now of Mataraata, and the president voiced appreciation of her generous gesture in making and donating the Christmas cake. On lDehalf of the members Airs. 11. E. Townshend presented Mrs. Dymock with a shoulder spray in appreciation of all her sendee, conveying the compliments of the season. As an appreciation from the choir for the use of her home for practices. Mrs. Townshend was presented with a boujquet by the president and shoulder sprays were presented to Alesdames C. Speight (secretary), J. Mcwett (treasurer), D. Williams (choir leader), Silson (decorations), Anderson (pianiste), Davies (hospital visitor), Brookfield and Holmes (programmes). The children’s choir, trained by Air?. Holmes, presented Christmas carols very sweetly, and the League Choir willi Aliss AI. Diedrich as soloist, sang 4 4 Tho Holy City ’ 1 and 4 4 Jerusalem. ’ ’ Other items contributing to the after noon’s pleasure included recitations by Janette Speight and vocal solos by Aliss Shirley Alclville to introduce an excellent Empire tableau. A bountiful afternoon tea with ice creams appealed to the children greatly and then came the thrill of the afternoon and the arrival of 14 Father Christmas” and Janette Spclglit as a charm ing fairy to present the children. The happy thought was presented by Mrs. Andorson. Airs. Dymock thanked Airs. Davies for the gift of the Christmas tree ? and all who had assisted to make the party such as success. Mesdames 11. E. Townshend and Puklowski were door hostesses and tea hostesses were Alesdames Garrick, Harris, How, Liddell, Kearney, Raleigh, Seaddon, Tremcvvan, Wilton, with Alesdames 8. J. Parkcs and F. Lucas, tea conveners. Aleiubers of tho committee also assisted in dispensing tea.
