FEILDING CRICKET SEASON COMMENCES

Service Bats Record Centuries JARRETT AND FACKES. UNBEATEN Misgivings over the prospects of getting sufficient personnel together to enable this season's cricket competitions to be staged were put at rest# on Saturday when four games were played among senior and junior elevens. Several of the old hands stepped forward to fill gaps caused by the call for war service and the senior game 3, as well as the junior matches provided considerable interest. Light rain fell as play was due to commence but it soon passed off to*enable players to participate in an afternoon’s sport. Public Service staged a batting surprise for Old Boys with the partnership of Jarrett and Packer who both contributed centuries in quick time in an entertaining exhibition of batting. Both retired after passing the 100 mark and the team declared with six wickets down for 274. Old Boys answered with a. tally of 62 of which Dewe provided S 3 and Bramwell 13, giving Service & handsome win for the first match of tho season. Playing against Nomads, Feilding knocked up 79 in tbeir first innings while Nomads made 90. This was virtually the end of the game. Feilding, however, went in for a second strike and lost one wicket for 92, The play at this stage was generally accepted as being more of a practice but Feilding declared and in the failing light called on Nomads to reply. At stumps Nomads had lost one wicket for 60, thus winning the game on the first innings. In the junior game High School defeated Old Boys. The following are the details. Public Service v. Old Boys.
