Air Force Crosses for N.Z. Airmen
TWO AWARDS MADE (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright). WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. Two officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force have been awarded the Air Force Cross, according to an official announcement to-day. A notice to this effect Is contained in the London Gazette. They are: Squadron Leader Harry Lumsden Tancred, R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Ohakea, and Flight Lieutenant Erik Alfred Anderson Moen, R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Wlgram. Squadron Leader Tancred, who was born in Australia, is 31 years of age and was educated at Nelson College. He then went to England where he was granted a short-service commission with the R.A.F. He returned to Npw Zealand in 1936, where he entered the RJT.ZA.F. After the outbreak of the war, he spent a period at the flying instructors' school at Mangere and later was transferred to the R.N.Z.A.F. station at Ohakea. Flight Lieutenant Moen was born at Dunedin and is 30 years of age. He was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School. He received his pilot’s licence in 1932. and in 1935 Joined the New Zealand Territorial Air Force. Two years later he was appointed to a short-service commission in the R.N.ZA.F.
The Air Force Cross has also been awarded to Squadron Leader Gordon John Grindell, of the R.A.F. about whom details are unavailable.
