A reminder is given of the meeting of tho Manawatu Women’s Patriotic Shop Committee this eveuing at 7.30 o’clock in the City Council Chambers. An enjoyable afternoon was spent at tho residence of Mrs. Harker, Langstono Avenue, when Mesdames R. Harker and E. F. Bee entertained about 40 guests at cards. Interest was stimulated by the presentation of prizes (some of which were kindly donated) for auction and contract bridge and 500, the recipients being Miss D’Ath (contract), Mesdames Arlidgo and Dobson (auction), Mrs. Wilson (five hundred) and Mrs. Fairbrother (lucky number). Tho proceeds amounted to £3 3s and have been handed over to the imne-sweeepers’ fund, thus bringing the final effort of the two ladies to a total of £l2, the previous amount having been contributed to the Sick and Wounded Fund. The monthly meeting of St. Paul’s Methodist Ladies’ Guild was held at the residence of Mrs. J. Cunninghame, in Hcretaunga Street. Mrs. W. B. Cameron presided over a good attendance and also led the devotional exercise. A letter was received from the Patriotic Shop Committee thanking the guild for its assistance in staffing the shop in the past and also asking it to do similar work next year. It was decided to help, as previously, in conjunction with the Cuba Street Ladies’ Guild. A date early in March of next year was suggested as best suited to the convenience of guild members. Arrangements were made for the annual show and spring fair. Three quilts made by guild members are now ready, and will be handed over to the Patriotic Guild. Two new members, Mesdames Collins and Ally, were welcomed. The hostesses were Mesdames Landers, Green and Miller. Mrs. G. Bycroft expressed the thanks of the guild to Mrs. Cunninghame for the use of her home.
