Splendid Outing for Crippled Children

TO VIEW CHERRY BLOSSOM DRIVE The visit to Palmerston North at tho week-end of 19 club girls from the Wellington and seven from the Wanganui branches of the Crippled Children Society to view the cherry blossoms at the Esplanade and enjoy entertainment and hospitality went through to schedule in the very happiest fashion. This was due to the excellent organisation of tho welfare committeo under Mrs. W. G. Black (convener) with the co-operation of the Y.W.C.A., Girl Guides, Younger Set of the Red Cross and members of rhe executive. Tho Wellington party was in charge of Mrs. May and Wanganui of Miss E. Aitken and Mrs. Rennis. The Red Cross girls provided transport on Saturday evening meeting the children at the tiain and taking them to the homes where they were to be billeted. On Saturday evening there was a pleasant gathering at the Y.W.C.A. rooms and a delightful programme arranged. Mrs. Black welcomed tho visitors and Rita Robinson, secretary of tho Palmerston North Girls’ Club (eleven members of which wero also present) presented posies to Mesdames Black, C. A. Small (president of tho Y.W.C.A. Board), Rennie (Wanganui), May (Wellington) and Miss M. Jones, secretary of tho Palmerston North Y.W.C.A.

After tho National Anthem items were given by the following:— Ann Williams (Hokowhitu Brownie Pack), dance; Earl AndVews, vocal solo; Y.W.C.A. girls, playette; Zoe Rabone, da#ce; Miss Rosemary Small, piano solo; Takaro Girl Guides, country dance; Nurse Currie, poi dance. Miss S. Page and her clever dog “Peter” provided further delight for the young visitors and items wero also given by a group of girls from the Wellington Club. Mrs. J. Riddle assisted with accompaniments and also played for community singing which was entered into with enthusiasm. Members of tho Y.W.C.A. served supper and thanks were expressed on behalf of the visitors by Mrs. May and Miss Aitken. The chairman, Mr. W. G. Black, secretary, Mr. G. G. Priest and members of the executive wero also present. Yesterday lunch provided by members of the society was served at tne Y.W.C.A. for all tho girls adn some of their hostesses, tho long tables looking very sweet with scarlet tulips and coloured napkins and the good things were fully appreciated. In tho afternoon members of tho Younger Set of the Red Cross were the hostesses at afternoon tea and then took the children for a drive to the Esplanade to revel iu the beauty of the cherry blossoms before starting on their homeward w r ay.
