Italians Shelled From the Sea
British Naval Attack R.A.F. BATTER TOBRUK AND OTHER BASES United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Friday, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 7. A British naval communique issued at Cairo to-day states: “Our naval forces again successfully attacked the Sidi Barrani area, Egypt, in the early hours of Wednesday, and a large fire, accompanied by a series of explosions, was observed. The fire •was still burning two hours later.” An R.A.F. communique from Cairo states: “A large force of bombers severely damaged the harbour and foreshore at Tobruk, directly hitting the barracks, wharf buildings and motor transport and starting a large fire north of the wharves. All the raiders returned safely. “We reconnoitred the western desert and effectively raided Assab, Macacca and Berbera, also Metemma, hitting three grounded planes and starting a fire which was visible 50 miles away.”
