Tokio Attitude to Indo-China Stiffens

NEGOTIATIONS STRIKE DIFFICULTIES

LONDON Aug. 7. A reliable Japanese source at Hongkong states that the negotiations between the Japanese and French Indo-China authorities have become more difficult and that a stiffening of the Japanese demands will probably result.

The British Minister of Economic Warfare, Dr. Hugh Dalton, in a written reply in the House of Commons to-day, stated: “No arrangements have been made or are under discussion for the supply of oil to Japan. There have been exchanges from time to time between the two Governments regarding contraband bound for Germany. Our aim is to prevent nickel, copper, cotton, and all raw materials from reaching Germany from Japan.”
