Pahiatua Magistrate’s Court
MONTHLY SITTING The monthly sitting of tho Pahiatua Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, Mr. H. P. Lawry being on tho bench. For riding a bicycle without a light, Malcolm Gilbert Rasmussen, of Pahiatua, who pleaded guilty, was convicted and fined 15s and 12s costs. James Goodwin, of Pahiatua, was charged with not possessing a heavy traffic licenso for a motor truck, and was fined £1 and 10s costs, one month being allowed for payment. Driving a motor-vehicle that was not equipped with a warrant of fitness, cost Olliver Holland, of Pahiatua, a conviction and a fine of £1 with costs 10s. Arising out of a collision between a motor-van which occurred at the inter section of Main and Princess Streets on Juno 18 last, Charles H. Souness, a motor-driver, of Pongaroa, was charged with failing to give way to a vehicle approaching from tho right. Sergeant Whiting outlined the cir cumstances of tho case, stating that de fondant was driving a mail service lorry along tho Mangahao Road at about 11.45 on the day in question when bis and another vehicle came into collision on the east side of Main Street. A boy in the other car was slightly injured. There was no question of speed as both vehicles were proceeding at a very reasonable pace. In reply to the Magistrate, defendant stated that ho had been watching a bicycle approaching from the left at the time, and when he reverted his gaze to the right he did not have time to avoid a collision. Neither vehiclo was travelling at an excessive speed, ho said. A fine of £1 10s, with costs amounting to 10s was entered, one month being allowed in which to pay.
