Grading of Butter
DISSATISFACTION EXPRESSED * MORRINSVILLE, July 29. 1 Dissatisfaction with the Govern- 1 meat’s system of grading butter was : expressed by Mr. F. C. Kennedy at the l annual meeting of tho Morrinsville Co- : operative Dairy Company, Limited, to- 1 day. 1 Mr. Kennedy pointed out that in i 1928-29 tho company’s butter used to i bo given a grade of from 93 to 95 i points, and practically all of it was superfine. Since then the methods of handling tho cream and of manufactur- j ing tho butter has vastly improved, and , yet for tho past season only 58.50 per j , cent of the company’s output was graded finest quality. It was the worst. grading tho company hud experienced.! Mr. Kennedy said the company had j contributed several hundred pounds an-! nually to the cost of maintaining tho inspection service. He had seen the in- j spector only once, and he wondered how the expense was justified. He described the tightening up of the grading as a move to keep down the guaranteed. price. Ho was very dissatisfied with | tho work of the Dairy Division, and . considered the company’s payments to j tho New Zealand Dairy Board and to ' the shed inspection service should be cut out.
