Fat Stock Sell Well at Addington
Per Pres* Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 31. Slightly larger entries and the maintenance of good quality led to a sound sale for all classes of fat stock at Addington to-day. Fat sheep showed another improvement, whilo the cattle market was also a shado firmer. There was a steadying in store sheep values. The fat sheep entry was 4000 and there was keen buying in anticipation of tho holiday needs for National week. The improvement was about 2s a head. Prime heavy wethers sold at 42s to 4<is, with tops 48s to 55s lOd, prime medium weights 37s 6d to 41s, ordinary 31s to 365; best ewes 40s to 49s lOd, primo heavy 34s to 37s and good medium 28s 6d to 335.
The store sheep entry was nearly double that of last week, comprising about 1600 head. Tho bulk were good ewes, but the increased supply caused an easing of about 2s a head. In fat cattle there was again good quality and a firm sale for a yarding of 500. Best beef made 46s to 48s per 1001 b., best to 50s, medium 43s and inferior from 37s 6d downwards. Prime steers sold at £l6 to £l7 15s, with tops at £23 7s 6d, medium weights £l4 to £ls 15s; best heifers £lB, with other good lines from £ll to £l3; prime cows rnado to £lO 15s with extra good pens at £ls 17s 6<3, while ordinary sorts sold at £6 15s to £8 10s.
Porkers were again in short supply and there was a further firming. Choppers also met a keen sale. The average price per lb. for pork was Sid to 9sd and for bacon 7id to Bld.
