Members of the staff of the Denbigh Hotel, Feilding, have decided to contribute Is a week from their wages and salaries towards the local Red Cross fund for tho duration of the war. A. -Campbell (chairman) at yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council when discussing the part; played by this association in the District Centennial Memorial at 2lt. Stewart. The Red Cross Appeal for £250,000 was mentioned at yesterday’s meeting of Oroua County Council by the chairman (Cr. A. Campbell), who urged the utmost support ou the part of councillors and ratepayers throughout the county. Cr. Campbell mentioned the valuable work done by this organisation and said that there was urgent need for funds and he hoped that the district would make a worthy response to the appeal. At yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council, Cr. W. S. Rage, recently elected to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Cr. Owen McElroy, was warmly welcomed by the chairman (Cr. A. Campbell) wheu he took his seat at the council table for me nrst time. Replying, Page said that he had followed the career of the county with

close interest, watched how the rates had been kept down and the roads up, and was satisfied that it was as good as any county ill New Zealand. That was not to be wondered at considering the number of Scotchmen who sat round the table. (Laughter.)
