Rating for Palmerston North Hospital

A verbal report on the estimates of the Palmerston North Hospital Board was given by Cr. T.- Green at yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council. Cr. Green, who is the council’s representative on the board, dealt generally with the activities of the board and went on to express the view that when the free medical service was under way, the levy on local contributing authorities would be less since there would be less call on hospital accommodation and more treatment in the home.

The chairman (Cr. A. Campbell) could not agree that this would be the case. He felt that additional nursing service would accfue and this would have to be paid for and would be a charge on the board. Cr. Campbell went on to pay a tribute to Cr. Green’s services to the county as its representative on the board, remarking that Cr. Green undoubtedly took a very sincere interest in watching the interests of the ratepayers. The county was, he said, particularly well served by Cr. Green and was fortunate iu having a councillor so qualified to represent it on the Hospital Board.
