Willard Home Board Reviews Month’s Work

At the monthly meeting of the Willard Children’s Homo Board at. the home on Alonday afternoon. Airs. E. A. Collins presided, and also present were Alesdames J. A. McLeavoy, R. B. Robertson, A. J. Farland, T. R. Hodder, K. McDonald, C. F. Spooner, F. J. Nathan, A. Andrews, D. Watson, Miss AI. Cranston and Airs. E. B. Jennings (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Alesdames E. C. Barnett, G. H. Bennett, D. J. Lovelock, J. B. San key and N. Ratcliffe. The report of t*ie matron (Miss L. Harper) stated that during the month the general health and conduct of the children had been good and all seemed to have enjoyed their holidays. The Competitions Society had allowed the children free afternoon entertainment. There had been five small temporary inmates, but all had left. Miss Laurenson (sub-matron) had been busy with curtains and remaking frocks and coats for the girls. Gifts had continued to como in and were of tremendous help. The school doctor and nurse had paid several visits, and visitors had made gifts of plants, etc., for the garden. The City Council was willing to level an! sow lawns on cither side of the ; -it, gate, which would improve the approach to the home. The secretary reported on repair work and a vote of thanks was accorded Air. Heatley for laying drains. Arrangements for the home’s anniversary day were discussed, Alesdames Collins and Jennings undertaking to provide a cake. An invitation for representatives to attend the Centennial banquet of the W.C.T-U. was received, Alesdames AlcDonald and Robertson agreeing to represent the board. The resignation of Airs. I. Wilson, who is removing to Wellington, was received with regret. Alsr. A. E. Hansford wrote expressing thanks for sym- , pathy in her recent illness. The secret- . ary, Alesdames AlcLcavey and Nathan were authorised to choose a site for . the home’s stall at the Winter Show, , and helpers were appointed to take ! charge. Various members offered donations. Mrs. E. V. West was elected a mem- ; ber of the board. Thf secretary was asked to write to . Mr. K. G. Chamberlain thanking him i for free for the children to i tho competitions. i Airs. Watson reported on her visit to , the home as the board’s representative. Alesdames Hodder and Bennett were l appointed visitors for tho coming • month.

Airs. Watson extended an invitation to members to attend a social in aid of tho Blind Institute.
