LEADER BY GESTAPO LONDON* April, 13. The first contingent of the Czechoslovak Legion in Britain is expected to leave for France very soon. All the men aro volunteers, and many truvellcd thousands of miles to fight alongside the British and French armies. They will leave England in their civilian clothes and will be provided with uniforms and equipment when they arrive at the Czech Army headquarters in France. The Czech forces will be under the supremo command of General Gamelin, but otherwise they will form an independent army with their own officers. They will swear allegiance to the Czechoslovak State and fight under their own national flag.

The contingent waiting to go to France is comparatively small, but from now onwards reinforcements will leave almost every week. It is expected eventually to put a full division

of Czechs into the field. Colonel Lukas, a regular officer of the Czech Army, who fought with the Czech Legion in France in the last war, is in London organising the dispatch of Czech volunteers to France. He escaped from Czechoslovakia after the German occupation and was hunted by Gestapo j agents for (lays and nights as he made his wav through thick forests towards the Polish frontier.
