Tho chairman and committee members extended a welcome to Mr. Daws, and congratulated him on his appointment to the position of acting headmaster. A motion of sympathy was accorded the widow and family of the late Mr. G. H. Bennett, of Palmerston North. The late Mr. Bennett had always rendered invaluable service and consideration to the welfare of tho local school during the many years of his interest in educational matters.

Tho Wanganui Education Board wroto advising of tho appointment of Miss S. C. Perrier to the position of infant mistress at the school. The chairman. remarked that Foxton was to be congratulated on the appointment of an infant mistress who had been specially selected as an exchange teacher for one year’s special experience in infant and nursery work in England.

Such apparatus would bo of great benefit to the school, and would be adopting more up-to-dato methods of teaching, thus enabling the children to be taught on a par with other large schools that already enjoyed this facility. The committee decided to refer the matter of the installation of a wireless pick-up to the parents’ association, and to make a recommendation to the incoming committee to seriously consider the installation of the film strip. Tho monthly meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was presided over by Mr. H. B. W. Osborne, president, who made reference to suggestions for a cottage hospital for Foxton. He regretted that the Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau), had been unable to bo present, as the Foxton representative on the Palmerston North Hospital Board, he would no doubt, have been able to give some information as to the prospects in this connection. It appeared as if there was a necessity for a cottage hospital iu Foxton, particularly with the progress indicated in regard to the flax industry. One man who had been injured in the swamp recently, had been five hours before receiving medical 'attention. Mr. G. V. Fraser said that .the question would be as to whether tho number of cases offering in Foxton warranted the expenditure that would be involved iu providing a full-time staff. The president said that there was an urgent need locally for accomodation for maternity cases. If these were catered for and provision made for an

emergency ward, it should be a paying proposition as far as the board was concerned. It was decided that the president interview tho chairman of tho Palmerston North Hospital Board on the matter.
