Countess Won’t Succeed White Rajah
LONDON, Jan. 21. Countess Inchape, at the request of her father, the Rajah of Sarawak, denies reports suggesting that she would succeed him. These reports followed her father’s announneement this week that he had deprived his nephew, Anthony Brooke, ot' the title of Rajah Muda (Crown Prince) because “it did not appear to him that Air. Brooke was yet fitted to exercise the responsibilities of his high position.’’ The countess, who is the. White Rajah’s eldest daughter, says that the idea of succediug her father as ruler had never occurred to her. Tho State of Sarawak iu Borneo was ceded to Sir James Brooke by the Sultan of Brunei in 1842. The territory has boon extended at various dates and has been under British protection since ISBB. The present rajah is Sir Charle.? Yyner Brooke.
