From Our Own Correspondent Lance-Corporal H. Clarke, Privates W. Collerton, J. Davey, F. and A. McKinlay are on final leave. H. Clarke leaves for Auckland to-night and W. Collet ton for Taihape. The friends of Mrs. H. N. Wilson will regret to hear she has had to enter hospital for an operation and all wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. G. Burgess has returned after spending a few days with her mother in Palmerston North. Mr. J. H. Lloyd, of the Railway Department, has been transferred to Taihape. Mr. and Mrs. G. Nicol were week-end visitors to Wellington. Mr. Earle has been relieving teacher at Kakariki. Tennis Last Saturday Holcombe beat Sanson in an inter-club tennis match played at Halcombe. Ladies' Guild At the Methodist Guild, owing to a wet afternoon, there was a small attendance. Mrs. Coombridge conducted the devotional exercises and welcomed visitors from Feilding, Mrs. C. E. Taylor, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. F. Flavell and Mrs. T. Goldsmith. Reports on the missionary conference held recently at Christchurch were received, and Mrs. J. L. Fergusson expressed the thanks of the meeting to the speakers. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. N. Anderson and Miss G. Fergusson. The competition for next meeting is to be something made from a 501 b. flour bag. Christmas Parties Oil Wednesday afternoon. at the Kakariki School the small children received presents off the Christmas tree. Mr. R. L. Fergusson, chairman of the school committee, presented the prizes. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies. The Halcombe Women’s Institute on Thursday evening entertained their children at a Christmas tree evening. The children played games, after which Mrs. C. Managh presented each child with a gift from the tree. Mrs. D. C. Managh, acting president, asked Miss F. McLaren, who is leaving the district, to accept a crystal vase from the Institute. She wished her success in her new position#. Miss McLaren replied. Supper was served
