Handsome Contribution To Plunket Funds
Last evening a cheque for £146 19s 4d was handed to Mrs. G. C. Petersen as president of the Palmerston North Plunket Society, being the proceeds of the baby competition run by Garner’s Department Store as a generous gesture to the society. The total votes cast numbered 35,272. There were three classes, the prizewinners being as follow: Class A: First (No. 101) Miss Haydon’s nephew (Auckland), 1405 votes; second (111) Mrs. Beazer’s (Mt. Biggs, Feilding), 1230 votes; third (119) Mrs. Geary’s (Brightwater Terrace); 918 votes. Class B: First (220) Mrs. D. Gunn’s (235 Broadway), 4975 votes; second (231) Mrs. Fairey (87 Russell Street), 3946 votes; third (214) Mrs. I. Butler’s (Bunnythorpe), 3623 votes. Class C: First (309) Mrs. J. E. Nash’s (53 Church Street), 1862; second (304) Mrs. J. P. Murphy’s (Cook Street), 819; third (313) Mrs. Wingate (Heretaunga Street). The Centennial baby with the highest number of votes was Mrs. Gunn’s with 4975 votes. Cups and cash prizes were donated to those in tho places.
