Boy Drowned When Canoe Capsizes

GIRL'S UNAVAILING ATTEMPT TO RESCUE Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, Nov. 26. Thornes Arthur Tetley, uged 13, son of Jlr. C. A. Tetley, of Dillon’s Point Road, was drowned when a canoe capsized in the Opawa River on Saturday afternoon. Tetley was accompanied by two younger boys and when one of the party, on losing a paddle, attempted to retrieve it the caaoo upset. The two younger boys clung to the craft, which drifted ashore, but Tetley struck out for the bank and when within a few feet of safety he was dragged under by b ■. heavy boots and clothing. A girl, Ellen Priddle, aged 15, attracted by the cries for help of the other boys, dived in an attempt to rescue deceased, but it was an adjacent resident, Mr. B. L. O’Dwyer, who finally managed to recover the body. Artificial respiration was unsuccessful.
