Good Demand for Fats at Addington

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 26. Despite the wintry weather there was a good attendance of farmers at Addington to-day and the sale was very satisfactory for fat stock. There was a small yarding of store sheep and all classes with the exception of old and ragged ewes and rough hoggets were wanted. A pen of forward ewe hoggets made 17s 6d, lighter sorts sold from Bs, and best two-tooth weth ers 13s 9d. An entry of about 6000 fat sheep, the largest for some time, was forward. The demand was brisk from the outset. Best wethers eased slightly as the sale progressed but good ewes early in the sale were Is a head dearer and in the final stages another 2s. Extra prime heavy wethers to 41s Id, prime heavy 30s, 34s 6d, prime medium 25s to 28s 6d, light to 20s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes to 31s Id, prime heavy 24s to 27s 6d, prime medium 18s 6d to 23s 6d, light to 14s 6d. Fat cattle: There wore 560 compared with 420 last week. The sale opened briskly at the best of last week’s rates and after tho first race improved. Values on the average were better by 10s to 15s a head for all better classes and 10s for medium cattle. Extra prime heavy steers to £2O 2s 6d, prime heavy £ls 10s to £l6 15s, prime medium £l3 15s to £ls ss, light to £lO 10s; extra prime heifers to £l3 12s 6d, prime £lO 10s to £l2, medium £8 5 to £lO, light to £8; extra prime cows to £l4 12s 6d, prime £8 15s to £ll, medium £6 15s to £8 ss, light to £6 ss. Values for porkers oypr the last two races were a little better than export values. Choppers were in large supply and showed an easing of about 10s a head. values while heavyweights wero down about ss. Porkers 42s 6d to 57s 6d (average price per lb. 7d to 7id); baconers, 55s 6d to £4 13s 6d (average price per lb. 6id to 6Jd).
