Half-million Miles by Car In slightly more than two years since he joined the service of the State, Mr F. R. Picot, Director of Internal Marketing, has travelled over 500,000 miles by motor-car to almost every part of the Dominion, quito apart from numerous trips by train and aeroplane. He said at Auckland that nowadays it was necessary for many departmental heads to travel a great deal, to keep in close touch with developments iu different parts of the country. Overtime of 200 Hours.

A claim for 200 hours’ overtime at tbo rato of timo and n-half on behalf of a man employed at the Southland Hospital Board’s farm at Lome was discussed at a meeting of the board. It was stated that the man had been engaged as a general labourer, but the union secretary claimed he had been doing gardening work and was therefore brought under the union governing local body employees. Several members urged that tho man should come under tho lower scale for farm labourers rather than the £4 36s for other work. A recommendation that negotiations bo entered into with the union and that the employee be replaced by a man who was wining to work under tho farm labourers’ award was adopted.
