This years Red Triangle Day appeal had once again been very successful, the sum of £l2O being raised towards the funds of tho Association. Tlio Optimists Club was enjoying one of its best seasons to date, tho members being in good heart and the club is undoubtedly rendering a social service amongst tho younger businessmen of this city. On Tuesday, July 4, tho senior men's class visited the ladies' class for a sociat evening. The gymnasium class enrolments total to date 430 members, and the average attendances in all classes are high. The Harrier Club paid a visit to Wellington over the last weekend to compete against a Wellington team. The trip thoroughly enjoyed by all, the contest being close from start to finish, only a fcw r points seperating Wellington (the winners) from Palmerston North. A film has been procured from the German Consul in Wellington showing phases of physical education in Germany. This film will be shown on Monday and Tuesday evening to the ladies and men’s classes and members of the provincial Physical Welfare Committee. A party of the senior men's class recently visited the Wanganui Y.AI.C.A. and participated in their programme. These visits undoubtedly will engender closer friendly relationship between associations and members. Both the senior men's gymnasium competition and the inter-house basket ball competition games are being very keenly contested, the activity proving wonderful recreational value to all participating. The report of the Boys' work director stated that the primary and secondary classes were showing an improvement in membership, attendances being well maintained in both classes. A visit of twenty secondary school boys to the Wellington Association was planned for the August term holidays when the boys would compete in both outdoor and indoor activities against the Jaus of the capital association. A rapid increase class is proving the popularity of the programme organised to meet the needs of the boys who on leaving school and taking up positions in the city find a need for clean, healthy recreation. The constitution of the employed boys’ class has been revised and a junior loaders’ corps instituted, of whom tho following aro tho foundation members: —R. Kendall, E. Steele, E. Christmas, J. The total enrolments in the boy's classes this year is 211 which figure compares very favourably with last year’s records.
