Pay of New Zealand Naval Ratings
COMMISSION HEARS EVIDENCE Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 24. The Commission recently set up by the Government to report ou the pay and allowances in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy met in Auckland to day and considered the evidence already submitted. It is under the chairmanship of Mr. B. E. Price (Conciliation Commissioner), other members being Mr. C. M. Bruce, recently retired Assistant Secretary of the Admiralty who arrived in the Dominion on July 10 to take part in the Commission; Paymaster-Commander G. 1,. O. Davis, R.N., Squadron Accountant Officer on the H.M.S. Leander; and Mr. T. F. Anderson, secretary of the Seamen's Union. So far the Commission has heard 50 witnesses of all ranks, including imperial as well as New Zealand naval ratings from the Achilles, Philomel and akakura. It has also heard the shore instructors of the 8.N.V.8. It will continue its deliberations on the evidence submitted next week in Wellington and will return to Auckland in time to hear further evidence from members of the crew when the Leander returns to Auckland on August 11.
