Battle at Shanghai
CHINESE TROOPS PENETRATE OUTER SUBURBS SHANGHAI, July 23. Three thousand troops of the Chinese Fourth Route Army penetrated the western suburbs of Shanghai outside the British-manned perimeter of the International Settlement, and engaged tho Japanese. A later message says the battle ended at dawn, the Chinese retiring. This is the biggest clash since the capture of Shanghai.
