MOVE TO OFFSET GROWING NUMBER OF DIVORCES I United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. MONTREAL, July 23. One hundred and six French-Canadian couples were to-day married in tho centre of the Montreal baseball stadium before 2500 witnesses. This was the greatest mass marriage in Canada’s history. It had been arranged by the Jocists, the Young French-Canadian Catholic Workers’ Movement. Tho object was “to offset the unfavourable publicity given to marriage by divorces. ’ ’

A priest stood before each of the couples. Six bishops were present. After Nuptial Mass the entire gathering raised their right arms in salute and took the Jocist vow to guard the Roman Catholic faith, obey their leaders and work for the victory of the working class. The brides were given rosaries and the grooms crosses specially blessed and sent by the Pope, and also greet-ing-<;ards bearing the Pope’s photograph.
