Oroua Bowling Club

The annual report of tho Oroua, Bowling Club records a vory satisfactory year and, thanks to tho generous assistance of members, the finances are cn a very sound basis. After allowing for liberal depreciation the year’s working shows a credit balance of £ll3 18s 4d.

The roll of members, which during 1937-38 stood at 47, has this year regained the former position of 1936-37 and now stands at 57. The grounds are in excellent order and the plant fully equipped, and quite capable of a membership of 100. The committee feels, with the population of Feilding, that with the assistance of its present members the roll number should really increase. The club has lost two valuable members in Mr. Dunstan Pearce and Mr. A. D. Hamilton, both gentlemen now living in Wellington and members of the Kelburn Bowling Club. The club was represented with the Manawatu Centre on its visits to Wellington and Foxton, also taking part on the occasion when the Brisbane bowlers paid a visit to Palmerston North. Two rinks, skipped by Mr. C. Aitken and Mr. A. Pitman, played in the veterans’ game of the Manawatu tournament. Manawatu Centre competition.—The following represented the club: Junior championship, Mr. Collier; pairs, Messrs. T. Simpson and W. Nottle; champion •singles, Mr. B. Law; rink, Messrs. Telford, Simpson (skip), McElroy and Nottle. The competitions for club matches have given great concern to the committee—lack of enthusiasm from members being the principal cause for the of the various games. Our thanks are due to Mr. A. Pitman for the care and work he has put into the green and gardens. The green is looking well and promises to be in good fettle for the coming season. In conjunction with the croquet ladies a gala day was held at the end of last February—aud proved a great success Our thanks are due to the f ladies for their suggestion and co-operation. 1 wish to accord my hearty llianks to the secretary and members of llio committee for the whole-hearted support that was given tu me during m;,; years of office —and to tho ladies for their kindly assistance in welcoming our visitors, and attention to tho afternoon teas. The report also records the results of club and inter-club matches.
