Theft of Bicycle

PRISONER SENTENCED Charles James Harrod, an enginedriver, aged 47, found guilty in the Palmerston North Supreme Court of stealing a bicycle, came before the Hon. Mr. Justice Blair yesterday for sentence. Mr. Ongley, hia counsel, spoke of accused’s good war record and said he was a good worker, with his employers willing to take him back. For tho last three years Harrod had been in permanent employment in Palmerston North. His Honour; He had no occasion then to steal a bicycle. Mr. Ongley pointed out that accused was at present on probation for an offence committed subsequently to the bicycle episode. Harrod’s record was a particularly clean one except for the two instances.

His Honour admitted Harrod to three years’ probation on terms that lio pay the cost of the prosecution, £l6, and to the owner of tho bicycle as compensation, for parts removed or changed.
