Week-end Accidents
TWO CARS COLLIDE On Friday night at about 6.30 o'clock near Otaihanga, three miles south cf Waikanae, two cars came into collision. The owner of one was Mr. Bryan Leslie Everton, of Beach Uoud, Levin, while the other car, a Ford, was driven by Mr. Leslie Alfred Ponder, of Wellington. Both cars were damaged an I one, Mr. Everton’s Packard, after going over a bank crashed through the fence to the paddock below. COLLISION ON WAIKANAE BRIDGE TRUCK AND CAR COLLIDE At about 8.30 on Saturday morning a Ford car driveu by Roy Vaughan Lomax, of Stratford, and a Dodge truck driven by Mr. Bert Legcr, of Weraroa, came into collision on the south end of the Waikanae bridge. The car, which suffered most damage, was taken to Paekakariki for repairs, while the truck was taken to Levin. Inspector Shearer was soon on the scene of the accident and did all possible, but luckily the occupants of the vehicles escaped injury. A STOLEN CAR CHASED BY INSPECTOR Whilo returning from the Trenthar races on Saturday Inspector Shearer, of Otaki, noticed a car being driver, at a high rate of speed; he sounded his siren with the intention of stopping the driver. However, the latter continued on but was headed off by the inspector by the time Otaki Railway was reached. Here the two occupants hurriedly left the car and made along Arthur Street to the paddocks in the vicinity of Dunstan Street.
The car, which had been stolen, has since been claimed by Air. Noel Newton Lye, of Melrose, Wellington. It was a Morris and had been taken from victoria Street at 4.30 on Saturday.
