Pan-Pacific Swimming Championships

PROPOSAL TO HOLD IN AUCKLAND

Ter Press Association.

AUCKLAND, July 10.

It is proposed to hold the PanPacific amateur swimming championships at Auckland from January 10 to 15 aa part of the Centennial Games. Arrangements to hold the big carnival are in the hands of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association and it is proposed to delegate the conduct of the negotiations, which it ia hoped will attract swimmers from Honolulu, Canada and the United States, to the managers of the Australian surf team visiting Honolulu. The Australians are to compete with the representatives of the three countries mentioned in the surf championships at Honolulu and it is felt that the occasion lends itself to negotiations.

The idea is that overseas swimmers should visit Australia in February and that they should break their journey at Auckland in order to participate in the Pan-Pacific championships following which they could take part in the New Zealand championship meeting at Wellington. At these championships a strong Australian contingent is likely to be present.
