Early Morning Fire in Lombard Street

TWO-STOREYED GARAGE COMPLETELY DESTROYED

A two-storeyed garage and store at the rear of the property of the late Mrs. H. Palmer in Lombard Street was totally destroyed by a fire which occurred between midnight and 1 o’clock this morning.

Two machines from the central fire station were despatched to the scene but apparently the outbreak had a good hold and little could be done. Scant details were available but according to the superintendent of the Fire Brigade, Mr. P. A. Milverton, the blaze apparently started in a car in the garage on the ground floor and spread throughout the building.
