Young Farmers as Debaters
MASSEY COLLEGE WIN COMPETITION FINAL
The final of the Wellington, Young Farmers’ Council debating competition held at Massey College last night, resulted in a victory for the Manawatu team which scored 310 points. Northern Hawke’s Bay with 299 points were second. The subject of the debate was ‘ 1 That disease in stock is of greater economic importance than the breeding of highly producing strains of stock.” The adjudicator was Mr. Gordon Elliott, of Feilding, who congratulated the two teams on their very excellent performances. The chairman, Mr. E. W. Barnett, welcomed Mr. A. H. Cockayne, DirectorGeneral of Agriculture who stated in reply that he considered the Young Farmers’Club movement one of the finest institutions in New Zealand agriculture and he congratulated the teams on their fine performances. Professor Peren, principal of Massey Agricultural College, also spoke and congratulated the teams on their arguments.
At the conclusion of the debate, votes of thanks were passed in favour of Mr. Elliott for judging the contest, to Massey College for the use of the hall and to Mr. F. E. Sherwood, secretary of the Wellington Council for his very efficient organisation of the tournament.
